Jakarta - As the first member of President Donald Trump’s administration to visit Southeast Asia, United States Vice President Mike Pence met with key Indonesia business leaders in a Listening Session during his visit to Jakarta, Indonesia in April 2017. The invitees were leaders of the Indonesian Business Community represented by 4 US-based multinational companies: Citi Indonesia which is represented by Chief Executive Officer Citi Indonesia (also served as Chairman of PERBINA) Batara Sianturi, GE, Coca Cola, and Chevron, Head of Indonesian AMCHAM Brian Arnold, Head of Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) Mr. Rosan Roeslani, Head of Employer’s Association of Indonesia (APINDO) Mrs. Shinta Kamdani, Former Minister of Trade Mrs. Mari Pangestu, Indonesian conglomerates Eddy Sariaatmadja and Edwin Soerjadjaja.
The listening session discussed on ways to strengthen strategic cooperation in economy between the United States of America and Indonesia and shared on opportunities and challenges for Trade and Foreign Direct Investment in Indonesia. On the official White House blog, US VP Mike Pence wrote, “We seek trade with Indonesia that is both free and fair – to create a “win-win” for both our nations and all our people. President Trump and I will work with the President Joko Widodo to reduce barriers to trade and investment and to create a truly level playing field where all of our business have equal opportunity and market access.”
